How long does a session last?
A spiritual direction session is usually 50-60 minutes long, once a month.

What does a session usually look like?
I usually begin our sessions with a time of silence to center ourselves into the space and to calm our minds to tune into the movement of the holy. You (the directee) indicates they are ready to end the silence by lighting a candle. At this time, I invite you to share what is on your mind or in your heart at this time. You direct our time together and our conversation. I may reflect noticing or ask questions for further clarification or reflection, but this time is really yours to use how you wish.
How long does someone typically stay in spiritual direction?
There is no specified time that someone should stay in spiritual direction. Many people have a spiritual director throughout their adult life, while others may utilize a spiritual director for a specific season of change or transition.

Does it cost money?
Yes, I offer direction on a sliding scale of $60-$90 for a 50 minute session. Please let me know if the cost is prohibitive to you and I can see if we can work something out.

Do you take insurance?
No. Spiritual direction is not mental health care and I am not a trained phycologist, so we are not able to charge insurance.

Where do you meet?
Currently, I am meeting with people at a church's prayer room in Bloomington, MN. I am open to finding another meeting space in Minneapolis if that would be useful.

Do you ever do distance Spiritual Direction?
YES! I currently have only seen people one-on-one in person, but am willing to do spiritual direction from a distance via Skype or Zoom. Please let me know when you contact me if you are not located in the twin cities metro area.

Do I have to be Christian?
Nope. Although I am rooted in the Christian tradition, I will see people from any faith or no faith tradition for spiritual direction. There is no pressure to believe anything in particular - this is your spiritual journey.

What if I don't know what I believe?
Then spiritual direction would be a great place to explore that!

Are you affirming of LGBTQ people? Is this a safe space for me?
Yes. I believe that the Great Creator made each and every person good, whole, and beloved - exactly as they are. You are welcomed, you are affirmed, and you are celebrated!

Do you ever meet with couples or groups?
I have mostly met with people one-on-one, but am interesting in putting together some spiritual direction groups. Do you have some friends or a small group that would be interested in listening to the movement of the Divine together and through one another? Go here to learn more about what that might look like, then please contact me and we can figure it out together!
At this time, I do not meet with couples, but I am always interested in learning. Most of the work I have done with couples is pre-marital counseling. So, if you're willing to experiment with me, I'd be happy to work something out. Please contact me to set up an initial meeting.

Our first meeting is always free of charge as it is a time for us to discern together whether or not we are the right fit to work together.
